Set in 1985, this deeply nostalgic, character-driven screenplay follows a tight-knit group of precocious neighborhood friends—Raymond (X-Ray), Paul (Dog), Jenna (Professor), and Zackery (Fly-Boy)—as they spend a formative summer spying on their reclusive elderly neighbor, Mr. Stihl. Convinced by a series of strange occurrences that he may be the Greatest Superhero of all time hiding in plain sight, the children constantly launch imaginative investigations to unmask his true identity. In reality, their wild suspicions harbor a mythic truth: Mr. Stihl is the retired Clark Kent, quietly living out a mortal exile after the tragic loss of his beloved wife, Lois.

The narrative masterfully bridges extraordinary comic-book lore with ordinary human reality through the beautiful metaphor of three distinct "Gardens of Stihl." These include Lois's front-lawn iron sculptures serving as blueprints for global monuments, and the massive vegetable garden where the local children work the fields, absorbing individual life lessons of strength and integrity spoken by Clark. Within this nurturing space, Clark channels his lifelong mission to tackle world hunger into a massive costume food drive. Whether orchestrating this profound contribution, protecting young Ray from his abusive Deputy father, or handing young Jenna a glowing green meteor rock that challenges her scientific mind, his boundless empathy rewrites the neighborhood's character. However, this fragile peace is shattered when their precocious pal, Fly-Boy, meets an untimely death, leaving behind a guilt-ridden and grieving Mr. Sthil, who simply couldn't be there in time to save him.

Decades later, the script transitions into the present day as the adult characters reunite in their hometown to confront their unresolved childhood grief and honor Fly-Boy’s birthday. Now a seasoned investigative journalist, a therapist-priest, and an MIT space scientist, the childhood friends discover that while Mr. Stihl has passed on, they themselves comprise his third and final "Garden of Stihl"—a human legacy cultivated entirely by his quiet care. Gathering at a park bench dedicated to their lost friend, they look back at Clark's massive public monument as the camera shifts, aligning the abstract metal pieces to perfectly reveal a towering stylized "S" in the center.

X-Ray's fascination with the mysterious Mr. Stihl soon draws the attention of his friends, who stop beside him and quietly watch the older man tending his immaculate garden. While the others joke about the neighborhood recluse and eventually head off to the park, X-Ray can't shake the feeling that there's something unusual about the tireless man who seems untouched by the relentless summer heat. As the group rides away, X-Ray lingers behind, his curiosity about Mr. Stihl only growing stronger.

From the safety of the natural swimming hole below, Professor, X-Ray, and Dog look up in disbelief as Fly-Boy stands high above them with the homemade hang glider he built for his birthday. Inspired by Mr. Stihl's words that it takes "great strength of character to step off a great height to realize your dreams," Fly-Boy—who idolizes Mr. Stihl and believes he is The Man of Steel—takes the lesson literally, convinced this leap is exactly what his mentor meant. As Professor realizes the glider is far too small and desperately pleads with him to stop, the friends can only watch in horror as childhood innocence, faith, and tragic misunderstanding carry Fly-Boy to the edge of the impossible.

Mr. Stihl places a heavy lead box in front of Jenna and, with a quiet smile, tells her, "Go ahead and open it." As she unlocks the mysterious container, he quietly remarks, "I came across that in my travels many years back. I've always kept it around for some reason," and moments later her expression shifts from curiosity to astonishment as she whispers, "It's... it's incredible. I've never seen anything like this before." Watching from the safety of the kitchen doorway with a plate of warm cookies and a glass of milk, he gently says, "Just tell me that you will choose a path in your life that will lead toward unlocking the secrets of the universe... Professor." After Jenna rushes off to wash up, Mr. Stihl quietly uses the edge of his plate to push the lid closed, briefly revealing a simple green rock that hints at a secret far greater than she could possibly imagine.

Devastated by Fly-Boy's death, X-Ray confronts Mr. Stihl beneath the waterfall, blaming him for inspiring Zack's fatal leap and for not being there to save him. Unable to ease Ray's pain, Mr. Stihl quietly bears the guilt of failing to live up to the impossible expectations placed upon him.

After Deputy Lance Giles viciously berates his son Ray from behind the jail cell bars, Mr. Stihl calmly steps forward, seizes the front of the deputy's uniform, and effortlessly pulls him against the steel with such overwhelming strength that the bars bend. For the first time in his life, Lance comes face to face with a force far greater than himself as Mr. Stihl warns...

"I have spent a lifetime watching bullies like yourself run over everything and everyone in their paths in a... pathetic attempt to have control. And the one thing I've learned in my feeble attempts to understand the human race, Deputy, is even the best of men can be alone in the end... What hope is there for the man who drives the people who love him away?"
